DECADENCE
Pop-Up Exhibition
April 27th 12pm to 8pm
April 28th 12pm to 4pm
Hosted by Tania Jazz Mont & Andres Jube Mont
Curated by Conchi Sanford, Erect Walls
T&A Studios and Erect Walls proudly welcomes you to Decadence. Decadence is curated by Conchi Sanford, curator, visual artist and Professor of Art History and Fine Art. Conchi has curated multiple exhibits extending across Northern and Southern California, in addition to international exhibitions, bringing together multiple emerging and well-established artists under a cohesive theme.
“Decadence” assembles works of eighteen artists who work in a wide variety of media. Underlying many of its entries is a stubborn materiality: each work aims not only to designate a referent but to assert its physical presence. The artists presented in this exhibition possess the same belief in art’s ability to materialize one’s personal experiences intertwining a sense of conspicuous morphological while simultaneously enticing viewers to unearth the meaning behind each piece on view. The ultimate effect is to render the complex processes behind memory—its fragmentary nature and its privilege of smell and touch in addition to sight—in the limits of the picture plane. Rarely are works of art so cognizant of the constraints of its medium yet so intent upon going beyond them.
There is no limit to the masterfully sculpted pieces, the intimate figurative sculptures, the playful tactile assemblages. In the realm of two-dimensional work, the biomorphic abstractions, and efflorescent scenes of the everyday found in the space between the painterly extremes. The only way to grasp the immense breadth of the formal, ideological, and intellectual project this exhibit takes on is to see it for yourself.
Join T&A Studios, Erect Walls and Conchi Sanford in welcoming Mike McLain, Holly Perez, Brigette Dominguez Yadira Dockstader, Katelyn Dorroh, Tania Jazz Mont, Duan Kellum, Seth Pringle, Stephanie Sherwood, Nano Rubio, Naveen Hyder, Roxanne Steinberg, Navi Toly, Phoenix, Katie Grip, Eileen Doktorski, John Knuth, Jacqueline Bell Johnson, and tarot reader Collrane Mergens.
